Ready for takeoff?
The main airports Iceland
Iceland has just one international airport, Keflavik (near Reykjavik). Domestic flights operate between regional airports (Egilsstadir in the east, Akureyri in the north and Isafjordur in the Westfjords) and Reykjavik domestic airport.
Authentik tip: For transfers from Keflavik airport to downtown Reykjavik, which take around 45 minutes, consider using a shuttle service or cab: it could be cheaper than a day's car rental plus parking charges (between 20 EUR and 40 EUR per day)... Not to mention the possible stress of having to drive in an unfamiliar city.
KEFLAVIK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Name: Keflavik International Airport
Code: KEF

Transfer to downtown Reykjavik
Taxis and VTC: The big VTC chains are not present in Iceland. You'll need to use official cabs, from whom you can ask for an approximate fare before departure (around 110 EUR for downtown Reykjavik, depending on time, luggage...).
Public bus: The Strætó public bus service is undoubtedly the best option for smaller budgets. However, you'll need to check the timetable at the airport to make sure the next bus is due, and be patient: there are more stops. You can get off at the BSI, Reykjavik's bus terminal.
Private bus shuttles: Various private companies offer shuttle services between the airport and downtown Reykjavik, at prices ranging from 25 to 45 EUR per person.
Transfer to downtown Keflavik
Taxi and public bus options are also available if you wish to stay in a hotel in Keflavik, at a lower rate given the shorter distance, of course.
