Italy enjoys a beautiful Mediterranean climate, one of the most pleasant in the world, with mild temperatures and sunshine almost all year round.

Here's an overview of Italy's two main tourist seasons: high season (June-July-August) and low season (May-September-October).

WHEN TO TRAVEL IN HIGH SEASON

June

This is one of the two most pleasant periods of the year, as temperatures are mild and you can avoid the peak tourist season. Also, it's still spring, the trees are in bloom and the days are getting longer. A word of warning to bathing enthusiasts, however: the water is still a little chilly, and spring temperatures don't yet allow you to get into the water so easily.

July - August

It's summer, temperatures can soar to 38 degrees Celsius and the beaches and town centers are packed with people. You'll need to plan ahead to book the best sopts!

WHEN TO TRAVEL IN LOW SEASON?

May

This is a pleasant month to visit Italy outside the busy tourist season. The weather is already relatively good (temperatures between 12 and 17 degrees), and prices are more attractive than in summer.

September

This is the beginning of autumn, as temperatures start to drop and the heat finally dissipates. It's also harvest season, with numerous wine tastings in the country's villages. What's more, the water has warmed up over the summer, and it's the perfect time for swimming and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on the beaches. It's our second favorite time to visit Italy!

At this time of year, it's simple: the closer you get to winter, the lower the temperatures, without ever becoming cold or negative! That's the great thing about Mediterranean countries: it's warm until very late in the year. So if you're not particularly fond of hot weather and like to avoid crowds, you might well consider visiting Italy at the end of the year.
