To rent a motorhome in Ireland, you must present a valid driver's license from your home country that was obtained at least 2 years ago, your passport, and your credit card.

A regular driver’s license is sufficient for motorhomes under 3.5 tons, otherwise, you will need a truck class driver’s license.

If your driver's license is European, it is valid for car rentals in Ireland. Nonetheless, for more assurance, obtaining an international driver's license may be compelling, especially if yours is not written in English. Watch out! The international license does not replace your original driver’s license, it only complements it. You must have both documents with you at all times.

In some countries, foreign drivers must have an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is valid for 1 to 3 years. It's an official translation of your driver's license in a dozen languages and you can use it in over 150 countries! 

It can be required or simply recommended depending on the country.

Before renting an RV in Ireland , make sure that the primary driver and additional driver(s) are of age to rent a vehicle.

The minimum age varies from one renter to another, anywhere between 21 and 25 years old.

Undoubtedly, this form of travel is very popular and unfortunately, the demand is greater than the supply, especially during high season.

If you want to hire a vehicle during the months of July and August, book early (at least six months in advance), since it is our high season. Sometimes reservations open up to 1 year in advance and this can greatly affect the price of your trip.

Finally, it is also better to book your RV before buying your plane tickets, especially if you require a one-way and/or high season rental.

However, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October) are generally considered the best seasons to visit Irelanddue to milder temperatures, fewer tourist crowds and beautiful green landscapes.

Here are the penalties you should expect if you cancel your RV rental following a reservation:

• FREE cancellation up to 72 hours after booking
• Between 72 hours after booking and 61 days or more before departure: 20% of the price
• Between 60 and 46 days before departure : 25% of the price
• Between 45 and 15 days before departure: 50% of the price
• Less than 15 days before departure: 100% of the price

One-way rental fees are due in full, if applicable, 72 hours after your reservation is made.

Car seat regulations vary from country to country. You must always check the road safety regulations, for your child's safety, for the country that you reside in and/or for the countries you are visiting. 

in Ireland, a child seat is required if the child measures less than 150cm tall or is less than 12 years old.

If your seat meets these standards, bring it with you! It's free to bring with most airlines and your child will be comfortable and feeling right at home.

Otherwise, you will have to consider renting a child seat with your vehicle. This option will be payable in advance or at the counter, depending on the rental companies.
