Several stops are possible on your route to Pisa. The Santa Severa Castle is literally a castle on the water. Then, a bit further, in the town of Porto Santo Stefano, the Spanish Fortress is a former fortress turned museum dedicated to the archaeological discoveries of the region.

Finally, the Mascagni Terrace is an observation terrace by the sea. It offers a breathtaking view, but also typical Italian architecture, gardens, and even a perfect spot for a picnic.

Day 7: Verona

Make an early departure towards Verona. Once arrived, start with a visit to the Arena of Verona. This magnificent Roman amphitheater is one of the best-preserved of its kind. If you can, try to get tickets for an opera performance during the summer, it's an unforgettable experience.

Next, head to Piazza delle Erbe, the oldest market in the city. It's the perfect place to have coffee on the terrace and admire the superb frescoes that adorn the surrounding buildings.

And you're off again towards Rome! Once back in your starting city, visit the Porta Portese Market, the largest and most famous flea market in Rome. You will find everything from vintage clothing to antiques, books to jewelry. It's the perfect place to unearth hidden treasures and live like a local.

After the market, head to the Bocca della Verità. This "Mouth of Truth" is an ancient marble mask that, according to legend, bites the hand of those who lie. Located in the porch of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin church, it's a popular tourist attraction.

Then take the time to explore the Aventine Hill. It is another one of Rome's seven hills and offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. You will find beautiful churches, quiet gardens, and breathtaking views of the city. Make sure to visit the Orange Garden (Parco Savello) for an amazing view of St. Peter's dome.
