What type of driver's license do I need to rent a car in Norway?

Many people are wondering if they need a special license to rent a car in Norway.

We won't let the mystery be any longer: the answer is no.

In fact, all you need for a care hire in Norway is a valid driver's license from your home country.

Here are the two requirements for your license to be accepted here:

1 - Your license must use the Latin alphabet.

2 - Primary and additional drivers must have been licensed for more than 12 months.

Also, most of the time, rental companies will only accept to rent a RV to people who are 21 or older.

Other countries

If you do not have a European, European Economic Area (Iceland and Liechtenstein), or a roman alphabet driver's license, you have to obtain an international driver's license. Watch out! The international license does not replace your original driver’s license, it only complements it.

You must have both documents with you at all times.

Important notes

The customer must present a credit card in the name of the main driver. When picking up the car, it is therefore mandatory to present a driver's license and a credit card in the same name.

Generally, the rental agencies will put a hold on your credit card for the amount of the deductible to be paid in case of an accident.
